Lae league to vie for 2nd Digicel Cup team

first_imgThe revival of Lae’s former glory club name ‘Bombers’ has been in the air over the last couple of months. Morobe’s Lae Bombers was out of the rugby league scene in the last five years due to the current Lae franchise – Lae Snax Tigers.Bombers had been the pioneer provincial club in the inter-city completion until it was replaced in 2011 by the Tigers under the Lae Biscuit Company sponsorship.Led by Timothy Lepa, CEO of Ipatas Cup, the Lae rugby fraternity is considering the possibility of fielding Lae’s second team in the 2016 Digicel Cup under the Bombers banner.  Lepa says Bombers will be a team comprising talented players selected from local competitions involving districts in Morobe. He said the team will be known as City Bombers, and its bid to enter the 2016 season will be launched on November 21 at the Lae League Oval. The launch will be marked with a live rock concert by local artists including Highlands music legend Tom Lari, Madang’s Demas Saul, K-Duman of Morobe, Daniel Bilip of Enga and Augustine Amil from Southern Highlands.last_img
