ISG launched SKF seal jet machine

first_imgIndustrial Supply of Guyana Incorporated (ISG), a subsidiary company of Machinery Corporation of Guyana Limited (MACORP) has launched the SKF Jet Seal Machine, in keeping with its agenda of developing the industrial sector in Guyana.A demonstration of how a seal can be made using the new machineThe machine, which is the first of its kind in Guyana, can manufacture seals using “SKF technologies” for hydraulic and pneumatic applications. Some of its advantages include that it can produce sealing solutions for most industries, it is efficient in manufacturing components up to 600 millimetres in diameter, and it has a variety of seal designs and features a short delivery time.Along with optimised sealing materials, the Seal Jet can solve almost any sealing problem. Over the years, numerous materials for the manufacturing of these seals were developed which includes polyurethanes, elastomers and thermoplastics. With this new technology, job opportunities are created for the training of recruits to function in this capacity.Chief Executive Officer of MACORP, Guillermo Escarraga noted that there is a window of opportunity in the manufacturing sector and it is one which the company has been committed to improving. To eradicate the need for imported products, he noted that they eliminated all the challenging factors and made the investment, which is worth over $80 million.“We are telling everyone that the opportunity to become a manufacturing company exists and we want to take that opportunity. We wanted to offer solutions…We decided to make that investment and we’re talking about an investment that goes above $80 million,” said Escarraga. He explained that the introduction of the machine was accompanied by other apparatus, which will make the operation easier.“We complimented the introduction of this machine with a hydraulic test bench that will help us remove, assemble and disassemble the large cylinders. Those large cylinders really high torque to be able to be put together.”One of their customers, Dayanand Ramdass of Everlasting Forest Products, was also present during the unveiling ceremony as he lauded the numerous benefits which are associated with the sealing equipment.“Before they brought this machine in, I had to depend on substandard seals that were available locally. I could not get proper seals no matter where I went. They were really expensive for the type of durability and the amount of time it lasted,” he recollected.Ever since the purchase of the machine, Ramdass noted, “There is minimum downtime and it doesn’t cost as much. That’s the biggest advantage. The second thing is that I can develop and manufacture any seal design that I want so I can make a seal that is much better than what came with the original machine.”last_img
